Fight the good fight-it's Book Blurb Friday!

Photobucket

If you are new to my blog, it's Book Blurb Friday! Lisa Ricard Claro, from Writing in the Buff, posts a picture meant to serve as a fictional book cover. It's your job to write a blurb about the book in 150 words or less to entice a prospective reader.

I had several directions to go with this week's picture, but unfortunately my mind had a hard time picking just one. I finally settled decided to focus on the unpredictability of nature, and I like what I came up with (I hope you do too.) Here is this week's photo and my story:

Little Fight Left

Fed up with the city, Cassie and Sam boarded the next plane for southern California, and quickly made over their lives. Gone were the noise and traffic, the lunches in front of a computer, and no time for exercise-now there were lunches in the park, morning jogs, and hikes in the mountains. And if the stresses at work got too much, there was always the ocean…

But sometimes when people become too comfortable, they fail to see warning signs, to listen to that inner voice saying something isn’t right-they take risks.

Cassie and Sam would become this comfortable. After several fires in the San Bernardino Mountains, and a mudslide advisory, the couple continued plans for a hike. But when that predicted mudslide does come, it washes the couple and their vehicle down the mountainside, and it will take everything they have to make it out alive. (A little windy tonight at 146 words...)

What about you? Do you see a story when you look at pictures? Just post an entry and join us at Lisa's! I hope to see you there.

  1. Susan--You're windy at 146 words? I ALWAYS start with more than 150 and then have to really hack away. You must be just naturally succinct. (I'm jealous!)

You went in a really interesting direction. I am going to bet that they have just enough fight to make it out alive...At least I hope so!

  2. If it's windy, it's because of that storm in the mountains! Great blurb. My interpretation is that it blends a thrill ride adventure with life lessons and emotional insights. Excellent!

  3. Susan, this is so good! I really want to find out what happens. So. Cal sure has had it's share of disasters. I hoped they watched my gal's t.v. show, lol, but it sounds like they need Man vs Wild or Surviorman.

    Happy BBF,

  9. very nice cliffhanger! I think you got a lot into those 146 words. I get how you can get fed up with the city but I don't know if I'd make it in nature!

  12. Oh ... I'm a sucker for survivor stories. I'd read this ...as long as no one had to cut off their arm!

  13. I love the way you build a picture of paradise, then turn it against the protagonists. This promises to be a great story - I'd love to know what challenges will face them on their hike back to civilisation!
