A pile of pictures (and Succinctly Yours!)

For some reason I didn't remember to take pictures until after the party was over.  Here is my hard working husband tearing things down in the yard.
Well, I would call my son's end of the year party a success, although there were a few bumps along the way.  Out of 24 invites (he had announced the party to the whole class, so we then invited everybody!)we had only 11 respond back-4 "no's" and 7 "yes's." Now I was more than a little overjoyed at having a smaller number, but I was also amazed that 13 didn't respond one way or the other. I can't help but think what if it was them?  Would they be upset at the lack of manners? Hmm, I wonder... My son was also disappointed, and maybe that's why I'm upset about it too.

We also had one of the kids (a very good friend of my son's this year)RSVP that he was coming and I called the dad to make sure he knew how to get to our house, but on the day of the party he was a no-show. My son wanted me to call him, but I didn't want to pry. I'm just hoping that everything is all right.
This is the spider man bounce house we rented.  It was a hit despite the soaring temperatures.
My daughter decided to get in some solitary bouncing while all the boys were elsewhere!
Here are my three monkeys jumping around before we let the air out of the house.

Here are the last of the party goers winding things down with a game of beach bingo-we needed to cool off in the air condition after being outside all day.

We did a little more water balloon games than we had originally planned to keep the kids cool (and the water balloon toss turned into an all out war of boys against the only two girls), but all in all I thought things went well. I asked my son to rate the party on a scale of 1-10 and he gave it a 9 (where I lost that one point I don't know-LOL!)

Now it's time for Succinctly Yours, another writing meme that piggy backs on the idea of Susan of the Stony River Blog. Grandma Goulash posts a picture and you are to write a 140 character or word story about it. You can also use the word of the day in your post if you wish. Once again it's late, but I wanted to quickly get this one in...

This week's word is lavender. Here is the picture and my poem (yes, poem-I couldn't think of a story this week.)

Two geese by a pond
Pensive and still
One jumps in
The other never will
Alone on the bank
Time slips by
One still sits
But now asks why
(138 characters with a lot of chopping and no punctuation, but what the heck, right?  Poetic license...)

This picture made me think of taking chances in life-I don't want to be that goose left on the bank (and I hope you don't either!) Can't wait to see what everyone else wrote-I'll come by tomorrow.

  1. I like your poignant SY poem, Susan. Touching and well done.

Your end-of-year party sounded like lots of fun for all who came. It is kind of rude not to RSVP and also to say you'd come and then not show up. People seem not to RSVP much at all any more.

  2. That's right, poetry doesn't need punctuation unless the poet wants it. Nice little pond-poem, and just the right size.
Looks like the party was a success despite all those parents who never taught their children to RSVP (can't really blame the kids). I hope your son's no-show good friend is okay, though.

  3. What a shame so many invites to the party went unanswered. Too many people with bad manners I think. Maybe one or two forgot to reply - but 13??
It looks like they all missed a fun party.

I like your Succinctly Yours - very thought provoking really.

  4. I'm with you, I don't want to be the one left alone on the bank. ;-)

Nice B-Day party! I am glad your son enjoy it so much regardless of how many came, you are a sweet mom!

  7. poems don't need punctuation! or other grammer.

The pics are nice. The spiderman bounce house looks like fun.and if people say they are going to come, they should come or call and say why they won't be able to come.

  8. Love your poem, and it is actually profound in terms of life and opting to be a participant rather than an observer. Nicely done!

Well a 9 out of 10 ain't bad, Mama. I'm with you, though...I'm curious about that last point! Glad he had a great day. (I'm not surprised about the lack of manners with the RSVP. Don't get me started. . .)

  9. Wow! That's a fine life lesson in 138 charcters and it rhymes. I bow before you.

  10. What a shame that your son's friends let him down so badly. I would have been upset, too. No matter, I'm sure he enjoyed the company of those who did attend.
I liked your verse - it trips neatly off the tongue.

  11. You have a lovely looking yard! Your son is very lucky to have you and your husband as parents.

I'm afraid to say that RSVPing is a lost art. (And it can't be blamed on people not understanding French: I've even written things like, Let us know if you are unable to attend. Nothing. And we've also had good friends say they are coming, not show up, and when we inquire if everything is okay, fail to get a response.)

Well, that's enough of that. I should be like Lisa RC above and not get started...

I love your poem, too. Glad you guys are continuing your Microfiction ways!

  13. And lovely fun pictures...I forgot to add.

  14. With poetic licence you could call the one left on the bank 'a sitting duck' LOL

  16. I thought maybe the second one won't jump in because it's plastic or something!

  17. At least the 13 no answers didn't show up without warning. I've had a few do that and scrambled to rearrange gift bags, etc. What a mess! But it sounds like it went well. Maybe the missing #1 is the missing friend that was expected ; )

  18. A jumper, water balloons, food and party games, what a fun party and it sounds like they all had a lot of fun. I too forget to take pictures when I'm hosting parties, I guess it's because you are so busy being a hostess. You might have lost the point because you didn't call his little friend a second time, lol.

Nice poem, yes, we should take chances in life and not be left behind.
